Gentech SCR Sensor Keeps Bus Fleet Running
The UK's largest bus and coach manufacturer had a requirement to measure the level and temperature of AdBlue® or Urea which is now being used in new vehicles as part of European legislation. The unit had to be robust and very low maintenance and the liquid had to be passed though a filter before use.
Customer requirements:
- Operating temperature -38°C to +60C°
- Sensor mounted from top of tank.
- Tanks manufactured in both rotamoulded plastic and aluminium.
- Liquid to be usable at -37⁰ after engine has been operating for twenty minutes
Solution:
An SCR level sensor was custom designed to fulfil the requirements of both the manufacturer and recent legislation, incorporating a liquid level sensor, urea feed and a temperature sensor. The sensor was engineered to operate down to a minimum of 8% of tank capacity to ensure that the dosing system never ran empty, together with a ten step level calibration. The temperature sensor (thermistor) is capable of operating between -40⁰ & +70⁰ and an 80µ filter was fitted. A heating tube which can be connected to the vehicles heating / cooling system was also included.
Benefits:
- Level sensing based on reed switch technology means no maintenance
- Robust plastic and stainless steel construction
- Easy-to-install quarter-turn bayonet fitting
Applications
- Construction vehicles
- Agricultural vehicles
- Power generation
- Heavy duty transport
